What are palpitations?
Palpitations are unpleasant sensations of irregular and/or forceful beating of the heart. Your doctor will tell you a heart palpitations treatment. If you have palpitations, your doctor’s first order of business is to find out whether the palpitations are caused by a heart rhythm disturbance. If so, he or she needs to identify the particular arrhythmia that is causing your symptoms.
Medicines that can cause palpitations include asthma inhalers and decongestants. Caffeine (found in coffee, tea and soda), alcohol and tobacco can also cause palpitations. Try breathing exercises or deep relaxation (a step-by-step process of tensing and then relaxing every muscle group in your body) when palpitations occur. Practicing yoga or tai chi on a regular basis can reduce the frequency of your palpitations.
