Regions and houses
The widest sides of the house usually have more windows, so a Southern orientation of the side with the most glass is good for passive solar heating in the winter. There are many things which must be considered when talking about house plans designs. This depends on your location – if you’re in Miami, Southern exposure might not be that great – you may not want passive solar at all. But in most areas of the country, the sun can help heat the inside of the house in the winter when the sun is lower in the sky. You generally want to avoid a lot of glass on the East or West sides, because that creates load diversity in your HVAC system.
